The Power of Clear Intention

Yesterday I shared how "sitting in the power" creates a foundation for consistent mediumship development. Today, I'm going to reveal what I consider one of the most powerful—yet frequently overlooked—aspects of professional medium work: the power of clear intention.

Moving Beyond "Who's There?"

Have you ever begun a reading by mentally asking something like "Is anyone there?" or "Who wants to come through today?" If so, you're not alone—it's how many of us start out.

But after 30 years as a professional medium, I've discovered something remarkable about intention that transformed my work:

This approach represents a fundamental shift from passive waiting to active directing—and the results are extraordinary.

"They Are Always There" Mindset

One of the most powerful beliefs I've developed over three decades of professional work is this:

This may seem like a bold claim, but I've tested it thousands of times throughout my career. When a client comes seeking connection with a specific loved one, I set the clear intention to connect with that person—not just whoever happens to come through.

The difference? Instead of spending precious minutes bringing through someone the client wasn't seeking, I deliver exactly what they need—creating profound healing and validation.

Why Intention Works

Many developing mediums worry that directing their intention might "force" connections or lead to imagination rather than genuine communication. I had these same concerns when I began.

What I've discovered is actually the opposite. Clear intention creates a focused channel for communication rather than a scattered one. As I tell my students:

When you clearly state your intention (mentally) to connect with a specific person, you create the optimal conditions for that connection—allowing your mind to recognize their energy and information rather than getting lost in possibilities.

Setting Clear Intention: A Simple Practice

The next time you connect with spirit, try this approach:

1. Before beginning, take a moment to clearly state your intention

2. If reading for someone else, mentally state: "I intend to connect with [specific relationship] for [person's name]"

3. Trust that the first impressions that come are relevant to this intention

4. Notice how this focused approach feels different from an open "who's there?" approach

This simple practice can transform scattered impressions into clear, directed communication.

From "Maybe" to "Definitely"

One of the most beautiful outcomes of working with clear intention is how it transforms your confidence. Instead of wondering if you're making connections, you develop absolute trust that connections are possible—every time.

This confidence isn't about ego—it's about creating the psychological conditions where your mediumship can flourish. When you trust that connections are possible, you stop second-guessing yourself and allow information to flow naturally.
