The Art of Mediumship Storytelling

Day 5 of 10 of The Complete Medium Series

Yesterday I shared how establishing quick, confident connections creates the foundation for powerful readings. Today, I want to focus on what transforms good mediumship into exceptional mediumship—the art of storytelling.

Beyond Basic Evidence

As developing mediums, we often celebrate when we get basic evidence correct: "She had cancer," "He was in his 70s," "She liked gardening." While this evidence is important, it's just the beginning of truly meaningful mediumship.

"In the beginning we are so happy with the little pieces of information we get. We're like yay! So we just say, I've got a cat here, you know? But when does the story come about the cat? Did you get it as a present? Did you have it when it was a child? Was it your best friend? Did you bury it in the garden when it died? And that's when the storytelling comes in."

Mia

This evolution from basic facts to rich storytelling is what creates the transformative, healing experiences our clients seek.

Traveling Down the Timeline

One of my most powerful storytelling techniques is what I call "traveling down the lines"—moving through the spirit person's timeline to reveal rich, detailed information about their life:

"I start with the cause of death and then I travel down the life with them."

Mia

This approach is powerful because when someone loses a loved one, they typically remember them as they were at the end of their life. By starting there and moving backward in time, you create instant recognition while revealing aspects of the person that may have been forgotten.

Example: Traveling Down the Timeline

"I have your father here. I can see he struggled with breathing toward the end—there's something with his lungs that became very difficult in his final months.

But he's showing me that before that, in his 60s, he was quite active—I see him working in a garden, there's something about growing vegetables that was important to him. He took pride in this.

And going back further, in his working years, I see something with his hands—was he someone who worked with tools? There's a sense of precision and craftsmanship here.

And even earlier, as a younger man, he's showing me something about water—did he enjoy fishing or boating? There's a strong connection to water in his younger years."

This approach does more than prove who's communicating—it brings the person to life in a way that creates profound healing and connection.

Becoming a Better Storyteller

The good news is that storytelling is a skill that develops with practice and awareness:

"I think the storytelling will come with experience because in the beginning we are so happy with the little pieces of information we get. I think when you put the mind on it and you start to become aware of it, you become a better medium and a better storyteller all the time."

Mia

When you focus on developing this skill, you'll find your mediumship naturally becomes more engaging, evidential, and healing.

Storytelling Exercise

Try this approach in your next reading or practice session:

  1. Start with recent events (often their passing)

  2. Ask yourself: "What happened before this?"

  3. For each piece of evidence, explore its context and meaning

  4. Notice the spirit person at different life stages

  5. Allow the story to unfold naturally rather than jumping between disconnected facts

This approach transforms fragments of evidence into a cohesive, meaningful narrative.

Having an Inquisitive Mind

The key to great storytelling is developing what I call an "inquisitive mind"—a natural curiosity about the details and context of what you're receiving:

"You have to have an inquisitive mind to actually be nosy without asking questions."

Mia

When you receive an impression, don't just report it—explore it. If you sense heart issues, ask yourself: How did this affect their daily life? What happened before this condition developed? How did they feel about it? This curious exploration leads to the rich details that create profound connection.

Your Reflection Question

Think about a recent reading you've given: How might it have been different if you'd approached it as a storyteller rather than an evidence-collector? What details might you have explored more deeply?

Tomorrow: I'll share my insights on balancing psychic and mediumistic energies—and why understanding both is essential for complete, transformative readings.
