Platform Excellence & Presentation Skills

Day 7 of 10 of The Complete Medium Series

So far in our journey, I've focused on the core elements of strong mediumship. Today, I want to share insights on platform work—demonstrating mediumship before an audience—which requires both strong mediumistic skills and effective presentation techniques.

The Joy of Platform Work

While many developing mediums feel nervous about platform work, I've found it to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my 30-year career:

"I love working on the platform because it's a challenge. And it's such a satisfaction when you've done a good job."

Mia

Platform demonstrations offer unique opportunities to serve multiple people while creating a powerful collective experience of spirit connection.

The Introductory Talk

One often-overlooked element of successful platform work is the introductory talk that precedes your demonstrations:

"Before I do a demonstration, I always give a small talk to the audience... I usually stay within 10 to 12 minutes because that's how long you can keep the interest usually."

Mia

This brief introduction serves multiple important purposes:

  • It creates rapport with your audience

  • It helps nervous first-timers understand what to expect

  • It establishes your credibility and approach

  • It builds the collective energy in the room

The most effective introductory talks are brief, engaging, and focused on giving the audience "something to think about" rather than lengthy explanations.

"If you're good at that, you have your whole audience in your palm. And it also creates a beautiful energy when you start demonstrating."

Mia

The Optimal Demonstration Length

When working with an individual during a platform demonstration, timing is crucial:

"The ideal is about eight minutes work when you're standing on a platform. And after that, go, come on. Can you bring another one in? Because everyone wants to contact more or less."

Mia

While private readings might last 30-60 minutes, platform connections should be concise and powerful. This approach serves both the individual recipient and the larger audience.

My Top 7 Platform Excellence Tips

  • Stay energetically high - "When you're standing up on a platform working... don't close your eyes because you lower the energy immediately."

  • Establish contact quickly - "I always start with a relationship... And I don't change that. I got mother for a reason."

  • Work the audience - "Sometimes you have someone who is there for the first time and don't dare to put their hand up... I usually go back and make a laugh about it."

  • Include humor - "I would never make a joke about the spirit or the recipient the jokes are on me. If I'm making a mistake, you know, I make them laugh at my own mistakes."

  • Keep your vocal energy varied - "I've seen a medium...falling asleep after three, four minutes because...they're talking in the same voice all the time."

  • Know when to move on - "There's nothing worse when you've been listening to a medium for 15, 20 minutes and they have a good link. So they're afraid to move on to the next context."

  • Trust your first impressions - "When I demonstrate, I always start with a relationship... And I don't change that. I got mother for a reason."

Working with Unclaimed Connections

One of the most challenging aspects of platform work is when you share evidence but no one initially claims the connection. In these moments, confidence and technique are crucial:

"I don't let them go. When I said three pieces of evidence and if they don't understand it, I'll go back immediately and check my three pieces of information... And then I look at them, what is the strongest one? That's the one I hold on to."

Mia

This approach prevents the common problem of adding more and more information when no one responds—which usually creates more confusion rather than clarity.

Platform Preparation Exercise

Even if you aren't ready to demonstrate on platform yet, this exercise will strengthen your presentation skills:

  1. Choose a topic related to spiritual development that you feel passionate about

  2. Prepare a 5-minute talk on this topic (time yourself)

  3. Practice delivering it with energy, vocal variety, and genuine enthusiasm

  4. Include a personal story or example that illustrates your point

  5. If possible, record yourself or practice with a friend for feedback

This exercise builds the presentation skills that create engaging platform work, even as you continue developing your mediumistic abilities.

Your Reflection Question

What aspects of platform work most excite or intimidate you? How might focusing on the service aspect rather than performance anxiety transform your approach to demonstration work?

Tomorrow: I'll share my most powerful insights on overcoming self-doubt and insecurity—building genuine confidence that supports powerful medium work.
